Our First Discussion

Let's start with some easy questions.  What are you currently reading, or what have you read recently?  What do you think of it?

  1. I am reading "Heaven is for Real" and before this I read "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows". So far "Heaven is for Real" is a fairly good book, but I am not far enough into it to be extremely captivated. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" was one of if not the best book I have ever read and whoever has not read the series should drop everything and read it right away. This weekend I am going to the quidditch world cup. Where muggles like myself play a muggle-ified version of J.K. Rowling's quidditch (these are college teams, not just a gathering of kids who want to learn to play.

  3. I recently read "Between Shades of Gray" by Ruta Sepetys. This book is about a fifteen-year-old girl named Lina Vilkas who lives in a country called Lithuania. One night, the Soviet police enter her home and takes away Lina, her mother and her younger brother Jonas. Lina is fighting to stay alive while she is starved to death, forced to work in unbearable conditions. This book was a very good book and I enjoyed it a lot. I re-read it several times (yes I love to read) and I would recommend this book to everyone I know.

  4. Ryan, I am a HUGE Harry Potter geek. Totally jealous that you're going to the Quidditch World Cup. Take pictures. Who is your favorite HP character?

Lucas, can you tell me a little bit about it? I really enjoy Greek Mythology.

Anna, it sounds too sad to read repeatedly. Is it more a story of her survival?

  5. I recently read Us magazines. About how Kim Kardashian is getting divorced after 72 days and how they there saying Kim got married for money. Because she wanted a dream wedding. Her wedding was 10 to 20 million dollars. Flowers were 1,000,000 and her dresses were 2,0,000. Kim kardsahian's divorce is a big deal to people because it's only been 72 days and people are also upset because she spend that kind of money on a wedding and a marriage that didn't last.

  6. I recently read "The Maze Runner" by James Dashner. It was a fantastic science fiction novel about a teenage boy who wakes up in an empty cargo elevator and cannot remember anything specific except his name. Strangely enough, he seems to remember everything he has ever learned, but nothing of his personal memories. Once a month a new boy arrives out of "The Box" and has to make his way around their society. Everything changes when a girls comes two days later and disasters start to occur. They all have to team up and find their way out of the maze before it is too late. I would highly recommend this novel.

  7. Stephen Henshaw

I recently read “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak. It was a very god book. It was about a girl who gets adopted and her foster parents don’t want to buy her books. She steals book because of her love for reading. Her foster dad teaches her how to read in the basement at night. Her dads life was saved by a jew “Max”. He needs saving now because of this horrible time period of 1940. He sneaks him in and he lives in the basement. I really enjoyed this book. It had a lot of twist and turns and the ending is excellent. Eve though it was a long book it was still very enjoyable. I would highly recommend this historical-fiction novel to anyone.

  8. I recently read "Heaven is for Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back". It was a very intriguing book about a boy who experienced Heaven. One day in the car with his family, they pass by the hospital that the boy recently had surgery and almost died. Then he says "Thats where Jesus and the angels sang to me". His parents were so shocked. How could this little boy know about this? He kept going on about his experience in Heaven. All of these things that a little boy could never have known. Its such an inspirational book. I strongly recomend it.

  9. I recently read the book "The Last Thing I Remember" by Andrew Klavan. This book is about an everyday kid who is in high school and gets kidnapped by terrorists. It is about his escape from the place that he was being kept in and what he does after he escapes. I really enjoyed this because because it has a lot of action and it reminds me a lot of one of my favorite TV shows, "24". The only bad thing about this book is that it is kind of gory and bloody. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys reading action books and doesn't mind a little bit of gore.

  13. I am currently reading the "Prince and the Pauper" by Mark Twain. This is an unbelievable book with an awesome plot. The book is about a poor pauper and a rich prince who look identical. When the two s meet, they decide switch lives to see what it would feel like to live in the other persons shoes. The story takes place in London, England. I would totally recommend this book to everyone. The only bad thing is, the book could get a little boring at times, but at the end is worth it.

  14. I am currently reading "You Have to Stop This" by Pseudonymous Bosch. It is the fifth and final book in what he calls his "secret series." These books are about three friends named Cass, Max and Yo-Yoji who work together to figure out mysteries. Cass is the one who loves adventures and she is what they call the secret keeper Max is the brainiac and Yo-yoji is the "cool" one who goes with the flow. In this particular book, cass, max and yo-yoji go on a class field trip to a museum where cass breaks the finger off of a priceless mummy and they have to work at the museum. They only get into more trouble. By the end of the book, some secrets are found and some mysteries are solved. This is the book where all the secrets are finally revealed

  15. I recently read "A Great and Terrible Beauty" by Libba Bray. This book is about a 16-year-old girl named Gemma, living in 1895. After her mother is murdered, Gemma moves to a boarding school in the countryside of England, where she unlocks mysteries about herself, her family, and a magical world called "The Realms," that only she can enter. Gemma learns that she has a special mission to save The Realms, but she doesn't exactly understand what to do, or who to trust, inside or outside of The Realms, but she must figure it out before the evil villain called Circe can. The book is very descriptive so you fell like your actually there. I highly recommend this book.

  16. Im currently reading a book called Skeleton Creek Ryan’s journal by Patrick Carman. It is a great book if you like suspenseful and scary stories. This book is the first book in the series called Skeleton Creek Ryan’s Journal. Ryan is the main character in the book and he is experiencing some though moments in his life. He is not the only one who is feeling this way. There is only one other person and her name is Sarah. These two kids cant go to sleep because after they fall asleep in there dreams they become alive and if they cant wake them selves up fast enough they die. Sarah is the more adventures one who always wants to look more into what’s going on. Ryan doesn’t want anything to do with what is happening to them, he just wants it to stop. After a few chapters there is a website you can go on and watch a video that helps describe everything that is going on in those few chapters you have just read. For some one who doesn’t read I recommend this book. This is probably the only series I will read

  17. I am currently reading a book called "Good Dog.Stay" by Anna Quindlen. This book is about how a dogs life is almost similar to a good life of a human. But the dogs life is just shorter and more compressed. Beau the black lab is suffering from old age. Anna the owner of Beau got the puppy as a present on her 40th birthday from her husband. And as Anna got older the dog did to,but Beau suffered more greatly. Beau became Blind, and baiscally deaf. The love from his family, and the people around him kept him motivated to stay strong...Anna Quindlen quoted: "But the life of a dog is not much of a mystery, really. With few exceptions, he will be who he has always been."

  18. Recently I read "The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I would recommend this book to out grade. It is a story about a young girl name Katniss, who is chosen, along with Peeta (A boy from her district) to go into a arena and fight to the death to punish the districts and entertain the capitol. It is a Love, Adventure and dramatic story built into one novel. Throughout this book Katniss finds love, cares for the people she loves. While reading this book I could not put it down. It was so exciting and you never knew what was going to happen next, who would die or what the capitol would do in order to make it more exciting. I really enjoyed reading it and when I wasn't I wish I could be. This is why I would highly recommend this book. I think both girls and boys would enjoy it.

  21. The most recent book I read was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I am absolutely in love with this series and this was my fourth time reading that book. This book is about Harry, Ron and Hermione's quest to find and destroy the horcruxes. The destroying of the horcruxes will enable the death of Voldemort. After they find almost all of the horcruxes the three friends return to Hogwarts and a great battle ensues. The beginning of the book wasn't as exciting as towards the end of the book, but it was good none the less. The ending was such a great and suspenseful battle and was very emotional. You felt the way the character's felt and you could understand what they were going through, it seemed like. This is my all-time favorite book ever from my favorite series. It seems that every other book I read can't even be compared to the greatness of Harry Potter.

  22. I am currently reading "Among the Impostors" by Margaret Peterson Haddix. This book is about a boy named Luke who is a third child (illegal chid). All his life he has been living in his home and was never able to do anything or have a social life (other than being with his mother, dad, and brothers). Luke was secretly given an I.D. card by Lee Grant who had died in a skiing accident. Luke used to live inside his house with no education. He didn't know much of anything but he was now on his way to learning everything. He went to the private school for wealthy people called Hendricks School for Boys. Luke now has to act like Lee Grant, a well behaved boy. I would recommend this book!
